-39 Though critically panned, the movie version of A Series of Unfortunate Events is miles ahead of the TV show. amirite?

Tbf Neal Patrick Harris makes a decent Olaf

He does! I just liked Jim's better. NPH often just goes full silly, maybe he was directed that way, but that's the choice that was made. But Jim Carrey doesn't telegraph the humor as much and balances the goofy-to-actual-evil-menacing-psychopath ratio quite well. I actually think the best and most well-rounded villain of the TV series is Esmé Squalor, Lucy Punch is brilliant and it's perfect casting.

As a book fan, I wasn't entirely happy with either.

Honestly yeah, but movie is better imo.

I haven't seen the movie in over a decade so I can't really make a fair judgment. I just remember really disliking how much they changed. I was pretty happy with the show, a few minor complaints but there was a lot I liked about it too (Lucy Punch was the perfect Esme). But I hated how they ended the show, so much so that I never want to watch it again.
